Overview

Your eyes, refreshed

Your eyes are among the first features to show their age. Blepharoplasty works on the skin, muscle, and fat of the eyelids, and the whole face reads as rested again.

Your eyes are one of the first parts of your face to show signs of aging, such as wrinkles, saggy excess skin and displaced fat. The skin around your eyes is delicate, and the area is susceptible to stress and exposure to natural elements. Blepharoplasty, or eyelid surgery, is intended to tighten up the skin and muscle of the eyelids and reduce the amount of excess fat, for an overall revitalizing effect on your facial appearance.

Dr. Humberto Palladino, board-certified in plastic surgery, offers eyelid surgery for both the upper and lower lids for his patients in South Florida, including Fort Lauderdale, Miami, North Palm Beach, Boca Raton, and the surrounding areas.

Am I a candidate for eyelid surgery?

Is blepharoplasty right for you?

Eyelid surgery may be suitable for your needs if you have one or more of the following cosmetic concerns. Candidacy is confirmed during a personal consultation with Dr. Palladino.

Concerns blepharoplasty may address

  • Saggy skin of the upper eyelids
  • Bags under the eyes
  • Dark circles under the eyes
  • Puffy upper eyelids

Ideal candidate profile

Eyelid surgery candidates should be in good physical and psychological health, with concrete goals for their surgery. Candidates should also be free of any medical conditions which could compromise their healing from eyelid surgery. Certain thyroid-related disorders, such as Grave's disease, may preclude a candidate from qualifying for eyelid surgery.

All surgery carries risks and every patient is different. Your personal candidacy, realistic expectations, and individualized plan are determined during your one-on-one consultation with Dr. Palladino.

The procedure

What to expect

Eyelid surgery is an outpatient procedure performed at an accredited surgical facility. Dr. Palladino may address the upper lids, lower lids, or both, depending on your areas of concern.

Upper Eyelid Surgery

Addresses saggy or heavy upper lids

  • Performed on an outpatient basis at an accredited surgical facility
  • Anesthesia and sedation medications are administered for your comfort
  • Excess skin and fat of the upper lid are carefully removed or repositioned
  • Incisions are placed within the natural eyelid crease, minimizing visible scarring
  • Results restore a more open, alert, and youthful eyelid contour

Lower Eyelid Surgery

Addresses bags, puffiness, and dark circles

  • Performed on an outpatient basis at an accredited surgical facility
  • Anesthesia and sedation medications are administered for your comfort
  • Displaced or excess fat beneath the eye is repositioned or reduced
  • Skin laxity is corrected to smooth the transition between the lid and cheek
  • Results reduce under-eye bags and puffiness for a rested, refreshed appearance

After surgery, you will rest in the recovery suite for a short time while the staff monitors you, and then you will be released into the care of your companion to go home.

Recovery

Healing with confidence

Recovery from eyelid surgery is manageable. Dr. Palladino will guide you through every stage, from the first day home through your follow-up visits.

First days

Swelling and bruising around the eyelids is common and expected. Cold compresses and rest help minimize discomfort. A companion should remain available to assist you.

Days 5–10

You should be able to return to work rather quickly. Temporary loss of sensation is also common and will resolve with time.

Weeks 2–4

Although full resolution of swelling and bruising will take several weeks, makeup can conceal anything that worries you. Dr. Palladino will meet with you several times after surgery to check your healing progress.

Several weeks and beyond

Full resolution of swelling and bruising occurs over several weeks. As healing progresses, the refreshed, natural-looking result becomes increasingly apparent.
